Nice, Hamon add their names to list of women elected to the Oklahoma City Council

JoBeth Hamon will become the 11th woman to serve on the Oklahoma City Council when she takes office April 9.

Nikki Nice became the 10th when she took office in November.

As the nine-member council edges closer to being representative of the city's population, it will include its first openly gay member, James Cooper (Ward 2) and two women, Nice (Ward 7) and Hamon (Ward 6).

Nice is black; Cooper is bi-racial. Mayor David Holt, of the Osage Nation, is the city's first Native American mayor.

When the new council is seated April 9, a majority will be 40-and-under -- Holt, Ward 1 Councilman James Greiner, Cooper, Hamon and Nice.
